Sales Price Field (Special Price)
Product Information Screen - Add a Sales Price Field as an alternative to the current Retail Price. This field would be a flat dollar amount -- i.e., Sales Price = $65.00. It would NOT act as a discount or flat dollar amount off. No date range is needed. This field will integrate with our shopping cart (CommerceV3) and be mapped to the Special Price within the cart. This would allow us to use sales price in order entry (versus using another Price Category) and more importantly manage the price in one system (CMS) and upload to the website via the integrated web service - rather than making price changes in two separate systems.
I'd like to propose a slightly different approach to solving this problem...
Instead of having a new field for Sale Price, I think we ought to have a field in CMS for Suggest Retail Price (SRP). CMS would upload this price to the website as the normal price and then whatever you have set as your Retail price would be your 'sale' price (if they were different).
This solution is also taking into account how CMS currently handles sale pricing. That is if you define a scheduled/permanent discount by percentage for a product, CMS does the math and uploads this is as the current price (as above, being treated as the sale price in the upload since it is less than the SRP).
This also means the addition of just a single field to CMS since you would not need a separate SRP for each price category.
